Method of Verification: How to Force Bureaus to Prove Their Data
A Method of Verification request forces credit bureaus to show exactly how they verified disputed items. Here's how to file one and why most bureaus fold.
Method of Verification (MOV) Requests
What Is an MOV Request?
After a credit bureau "verifies" a disputed item, you have the right under Section 611(a)(7) of the FCRA to request the method they used to verify.
Why This Matters
Many bureaus verify through automated systems (e-OSCAR) that simply ask the creditor "Is this correct?" without reviewing actual documentation. An MOV request exposes this.
When to Send
After receiving a dispute result that says "verified as accurate."
What to Request
Why MOV Requests Lead to Removals
If the bureau can't adequately describe their verification method, they've potentially violated the FCRA by conducting a superficial investigation.
CreditBooster automatically sends MOV requests after every "verified" response, this is a key reason our removal rates are so high.
